Slow start under Win7 causes error 17 January 2010, 11:53 |
Using RamDisk under Windows 7 32bit causes an error when you add the pagefile to the ramdisk.
I believe this is due to the ramdisk not being ready when Windows looks for it.
I am also testing VSuite RamDisk, and it does not suffer from this problem. I prefer softperfect's GUI and lower pricing, is there a way to fix this problem?

Currently you cannot put the page file on this RAM Disk. We will make this possible in a month or so
Alternatively, I would recommend to reconsider putting the pagefile to a RAM disk, as this does not really boost performance. Putting a swap file back into the RAM is hardly any efficient, even if it appears to be. In this case, you just need a bit of fine-tuning on the OS itself. It's probably a much better idea to turn the page file off completely, provided you have got sufficient RAM, or reduce its size.
See this thread on StorageReview for an in-depth conversation.

Update: Since version 3.0 released on March 25, 2010 of the RAM disk product, it is possible to place the pagefile on a ram disk. In order to do so, the RAM disk must be created as a boot ram disk (choose Disk - Add Boot Disk from the main menu). The disk must also be assigned to any drive letter other than A or B, otherwise the creation of the pagefile will fail.

OK, seems I can't test the new version of RamDisk.
I installed v2.x back in Jan when I posted this and used it for about an hour, then uninstalled.
Just installed v3.x to test and I get an error telling me that I have been using RamDisk for 71 days (30 day free trial), and I need to purchase or quit.
That tells me that your uninstaller left things on my system and didn't uninstall everything.
I uninstalled v3 and then reinstalled hoping that would clear things up to no avail.
I'd like to request 2 things.
1. I'd like to be able to test the new version 3 of RamDisk
2. I'd like the uninstaller to uninstall everything, registry changes included.

Hi Jeff,
I have emailed a temporary license key to you that will allow you to test the software for another 15 days and decide whether to purchase it or not.
Unfortunately it is impossible to remove everything after uninstallation. The application has to leave a mark in the system that it once has been installed. Otherwise, users will be able to reinstall the software every month thereby getting an unlimited trial, and we'll be out of business then
Hope this helps.
Andrew
