dynamically write to a file

I use the network scanning tool to track Nortel Layer 2 devices.

I ping the ranges and query on our RO com string and a custom MIB that I want to be retuned.

Only problem is that large scans tend to cause errors, I believe that they are too big and my RAM is overwhelmed. I tried to e-mail the report that my corp. firewall blocks it.

Would it be possible to have the output write to a txt file in real time so I don't get memory problems.

Besides that, I love the NETSCAN. GREAT TOOL….keep up the good work.

I am sorry, but this feature would be a quite difficult to be implemented from the point of view of the network scanner internals. As a solution, you could create a batch file to run the network scanner to scan shorter ranges. For instance, if you are trying to scan the range 10.0.0.0 - 20.0.0.0, your batch file could be as follows:

netscan.exe /range:10.0.0.0-10.255.255.255 /auto:net10.txt
netscan.exe /range:11.0.0.0-10.255.255.255 /auto:net11.txt
...
netscan.exe /range:20.0.0.0-10.255.255.255 /auto:net20.txt

So you can scan any large network. Moreover, this takes less memory. Hope this helps.

Just so I am clear,
1- Once it passes the first line of the batch file it will automatically go on to the next???

2- Will it still use the same SNMP parameters stored in the application settings? (RO String, and MIB)

1. Yes, if use standard Windows BAT/CMD files
2. Yes, it uses global scan settings

Finally, you can merge the files into a complete one
using the 'type *.txt > results.txt' shell command.
