Feature idea: Regular Expressions

Feature idea: Regular Expressions   23 November 2011, 00:21

Hello Team,

Do you planning using "regular expressions" in future versions?

For example for filering information, which gathering from WMI querys (requests) or another program functions (i.e. "Remote registry", "Remote file", e.t.c.)?

Let me spread above example:
«HOSTNAME1\Administrator, HOSTNAME2\s_user, HOSTNAME\Domain users»
required convert to
«Administrator, s_user, Domain users»
Described example can be performed using following regular extensions: «([a-z]|[0-9]){1,15}?\\» or «([a-z]|[0-9]){1,15}\\» (depends on language version, which you're using), replacing found lines for empty or any other value.

With Best Regards,
Serj.

Not at this point. We can however cut off any domain names in user names ("Members of a local group"wink to make the output uniform with the other queries.

You can download the latest update - it doesn't have the unneeded parts anymore.

Here is another example of where the idea I posted in “How to get local users permissions or group participation from scanned hosts” comes into play. You can script this and gather this very information.

Here is a quote from that Thread:

My fears with the extra options you are requesting are they will take this project away from its main purpose; To scan your network for computers and gather some basic information (just basic information). Adding all these extra features that IMHO are not part of an IP Scanner software will make it become bulky and bloated. Besides what you are looking for can be done with PowerShell which is why Microsoft put so much time and effort into making it available. Every Administrator has special needs on their network to gather certain types of information just as you have posted here, but again this is why we have tools to gather this information.

Maybe a better request is to have a defined section to add powershell , cmd, and VBScript scripts to run against your IP Scan. You can already do this with NetScan (Options | Applications) but maybe options like Remote PowerShell, Remote Command Script, Remote VBScript would make it easier for everyone to run special scripts to gather information like you are suggesting. These added Remotes… could be pre-configured to help you set them up more easily.

Just my two cents, -WS

Don't worry we'll keep it simple. Actually making it possible to execute PowerShell scripts remotely sounds like a good idea, yet I am not sure how can be done technically. Perhaps, then if there is "Remote PowerShell" feature in the network scanner, it will be fully feature-complete as almost any administrative task could be done via it.

@Andrew

I think all you really need to do is make it like (Options | Applications) but add it like the Remote WMI, Remote Registry...just continue with Remote PowerShell, Remote VBScript, Remote CMD. Then you can run any script. It is up to the programmer to write the script to take the passed options (i.e. IP address) and have the script connect remotely and do the work they need. I have a Schedule Remote Shutdown VBScript that I added under (Options | Applications) that works perfectly.

I hope that helps. -WS
