Re: Shared status lost on RAM disk after reboot

today, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

The RAM disk is mounted by a driver that starts long before services start. These processes happen in parallel, so a service may already be running, but a RAM disk is still not ready. The only workaround I can think of is a simple batch script that checks once a minute whether the drive letter exists. When the drive letter has been found, it starts the SERVER (or any other) service. Obviously

Re: Network scan through VPN /22 subnet mask

14 days ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

If the VPN adapter isn't shown in the list of adapters, you can still manually enter the required IP address and scan it normally, as shown below. The Network Scanner itself doesn't make any routing decisions, and scanning those addresses should work the same way Windows works with them.

Re: Traffic monitoring affects some games

14 days ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

It could be caused by the situation described here: Unstable connection or errors caused by ignoring LAN traffic. Try unchecking the "Ignore local traffic within the LAN" setting to see if it resolves the problem. If it does, either leave it unchecked, or install the TDI driver as follows: Backup usage data and settings via Usage Reports - Backup. Exit and uninstall NetWorx. Rebo

Re: Cannot run a scan: nothing happens after pressing Scan Now button

4 weeks ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

First of all, please check WiFi Guard settings, the Basic tab, and make sure the correct WiFi adapter is selected in the Network adapters list as shown in the example below (your WiFi adapter adapter may have a different name, but it must be selected correctly to enable WiFi Guard to scan your network). Also please note that network scanning is not instantaneous process: you may need to wait a

Re: How to display Windows version

The Windows build information unfortunately doesn't seem to be available in the old API used with options at the Workstation tab. You can however use the Remote WMI feature to extract the full version information:

Re: Networx on Mac shuts down unexpectedly

5 weeks ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

It is indeed unfortunate that there is no other information about the issue, such as reports or messages, because in this situation it is really difficult to diagnose and subsequently fix the problem. We will run some more tests, but obviously there is no guaranteed outcome. There are plans to bring macOS version of NetWorx closer to its Windows sibling, but as of now they are far from equal.

Re: High DPI display issues: icons become blurry or disappear when mouse passes over

5 weeks ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Thank you for reporting and describing the issue with high DPI. Some good news here: we have implemented vector icons in the Network Scanner that freely scale to any DPI without any blurriness or loss in quality. Below are the comparison screenshots of the old and new UI. The new icons look a little different to the old set, but should be much more visually appealing at high DPI settings:

Re: Monitoring and recording the Internet speed and dropouts

6 weeks ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

If you want to periodically measure the speed of your Internet connection, NetWorx offers a tool called Speed Meter that uploads and downloads test data to a remote server and measures the speed of your connection. The issue here however is that while the Windows version of NetWorx can run these tests on a set schedule and keep a record of the results, the Linux and macOS versions currently l

Re: How to solve SMTP request error : connect error 10013

6 weeks ago, by Ann in Print Inspector Forum

Error 10013 is usually caused by antivirus or firewall software. Basically this error means that the required socket connection is being denied. This is a generic issue not specific to Print Inspector: a simple google search will show how common it is. Socket error 10013 message implies that a port is blocked and/or unreachable. To fix it, you can try turning off any security software (such

Re: Complete uninstall of NetWorx

7 weeks ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

If you are using the portable edition of NetWorx, it can be removed by simply deleting the folder with the application. The portable edition does not contain the drivers. If you are using the installed edition, it can be uninstalled just like any other installed software via Add/Remove Programs or a similar menu depending on your version of Windows. This will of course remove the drivers as we

Re: Thread scan stuck: diagnostics and solutions

7 weeks ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

As suggested before, you can try: Unchecking Check for write access on the Shares tab in Options. Unchecking all items in Remote File. Alternatively, you can set Max. thread run-time on the General tab in Options to something around 60 sec, and the application will attempt to terminate those stuck threads.

Re: How to change the language of WiFi Guard program interface

7 weeks ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

To change the language of the app, open the Help menu (that is the menu item at the very top of the WiFi Guard window, not the Help toolbar button with an icon), then open the Language submenu, and then select your language form the list. After that, restart the app to apply the new language.

Re: Is it possible to boot Windows from a RAM Disk?

8 weeks ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Unlike a real physical disk, a RAM disk is a software-created representation of a hard disk in memory, and it doesn't really exist before the system boots. Which means Windows must boot first, from a physical disk. You can however place virtual machine software on a RAM disk and boot other instances of Windows (or any other systems) in those virtual machines from the RAM disk.

Re: How to scan the network to see all logged-in users

2 months ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

There is a number of various reasons. The most common one is that your current user doesn't have sufficient privileges (usually you would run the Network Scanner under a domain admin account).

Re: How to scan the network to see all logged-in users

You can do it by using the Live Display feature. Please see the user manual for more info on how to use it.

Re: Installing network traffic filtering driver - necessary or optional?

2 months ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

The filtering driver enables monitoring usage by application (e.g. how much data particular applications use on your computer). In addition, you will be able to disregard local traffic if your computer is connected to a LAN. Otherwise, the driver is not necessary. Simply install NetWorx without the driver and see if it provides all the functionality you require. Upload/download speed monitorin

Re: Issue with Google thinking it's a less secure app

3 months ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

This issue is due to the fact that Google normally uses the so-called OAuth mechanism, which is generally considered more secure. It provides authorisation without disclosing the password. For example, the user can give another site access to the data in their facebook or twitter account, but with OAuth that third-party site doesn't get to "see" the user password and thus shouldn't be a

Re: How to monitor all IPs in a local network

3 months ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Unfortunately it is technically impossible to monitor all IPs from a regular computer. This is because in a regular network, all computers talk directly to a router, without giving a standalone computer any chance to see what the others are doing. In enterprise networks the monitoring is usually done at the router, which is either expensive hardware or a Windows-based server. Alternatively, t

Re: Running portable Network Scanner from USB (licence question)

3 months ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Yes, you can install our Network Scanner on a USB stick and use it whenever and wherever you need. The most common scenario is when a technician visits the customers and runs the software from his/her USB stick on different computers as required. For this scenario we recommend to use the portable version as it keeps all its settings in the same folder and is designed to be run from a USB stick.

Re: WiFi Guard vs Wi-Fi Inspector

3 months ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

Avast Wi-Fi Inspector is a tool of a different kind. According to the page you referred to, Wi-Fi Inspector scans for vulnerabilities in the network hardware and software to ensure those vulnerabilities don't get exploited and they don't become a botnet. Our WiFi Guard on the other hand is designed to alert you if there are new and unknown devices in your home network, which would be the case

Re: Devices connected by Google WiFi are not displayed

3 months ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

Your router may be using a so-called wireless client isolation or session isolation, which means the clients cannot see each other over the network. There should be a setting in the router's web-interface to turn this feature on and off.

Re: How to fix transparent background in the tray icon

3 months ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

It is indeed a small issue. It happens due to the code that draws the histogram treating pure the white colour as transparent. The simplest solution for this is to go to the Graph Colours tab in the NetWorx Settings and choose an off-white colour for the background (e.g. Ghost white or Snow). It will look white in your tray/notification area, and will fix the problem.

Re: Cannot import XML file into Excel

The XML files Network Scanner generates are not designed to be loaded into MS Excel. Simply save the results as CSV or HTML - they are better suited for MS Office.

Re: VLAN column is empty

3 months ago, by Ann in Switch Port Mapper Forum

Thank you. It turned out that these models return the MAC address in their CDP info in binary rather than in ASCII as the standard prescribes. This caused an exception and incorrect further processing, which in turn caused VLAN info not to be displayed. Please download the latest version and let us know how it works for you.

Re: VLAN column is empty

3 months ago, by Ann in Switch Port Mapper Forum

Thank you for reporting this issue. If we introduced an error in the latest version, we would definitely love to fix it as soon as possible. What is your switch vendor and model that the latest version stopped working with?

Re: The same computer is listed twice

3 months ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

These two ranges in your XML file overlap, from 100 to 199 in the lowest octet: 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199 Your computer (192.168.0.105) is in the overlap, so it is scanned and found twice.

Re: The same computer is listed twice

3 months ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

This could be because it is connected twice, e.g. by a network card and WiFi, but usually in that case the IP address and MAC address are different. Does this happen every time you scan? If so, could you please provide the IP range(s) you are scanning?

Re: Page count in email notification

3 months ago, by Ann in Print Inspector Forum

This situation is due to how Print Inspector alerts are implemented internally. The monitoring service is constantly receiving updates about what's being printed, and as soon as the condition is met, an e-mail is created and sent, while printing of that job continues. For example, Print Inspector receives something like this: 1 page printed 5 pages printed 20 pages printed <- at this po
